I happened across this online and it brought back so many memories of the Kennedy Kids and dogs. Library books, charts, magazines were daily reading and discussion. Perhaps the Kennedy Klan GrandKids will have fun with this as the Kennedy Kids walk down their memory lane. These were the childhood favorites:
Darla ~ Newfoundland
Brent ~ German Shorthaired Pointer
Jared ~ Great Dane
Lauryn ~ Great Pyrenese
Davis couldn't make up his mind but his heart flipped out for this Australian Shepherd stating if we could adopt her he would pay for all her food and vet bills. Tennisyn aka Tess was an amazing dog.
Logan ~ Rhodesian Ridgeback
And Kaden kept changing his mind - Newf, Golden Retriever and Australian cattle dog! And he ended up getting a Red Bone Coon Hound, reminiscent of childhood reading Where the Red Fern Grows.
Janessa ~ Bernese Mountain Dog
Jillaine ~ Golden Retriever (but only the ones out of the Scottish breed lines)
Lehman ~ Beagle
Maryn- Australian Cattledog aka Red Heeler
As a teen, Lauryn bought a Coton deTulear and had one litter of pups with Vashti. Vanna was one of the pups that she kept.
And this is what we bred and had for pets! Cairn Terriers
They were the best - Taryn, Kirby, Reba & Lacey!
You gave us great memories!
I wish I taped more of the songs, but this is all I have (I hadn't brought my video camera, only the still). They are pretty talented. I was super impressed. You know Dad, music is always well done. The boys are all very talented, and Christa and Kari have great voices to round out the group.
This concert was after the rehearsal dinner. The bugs were really bad, so excuse the random waving around:-) There are lots of pics at the bottom of this post.
Before rehearsal, Logan pulled out his brand new banjo for a little practice. Dad on one of his (many) Taylor guitars.
Logan and Kari, singing Broken Heart (on Darla's blog also)
Boondocks. Logan on lead vocals.
Down Home, lead vocals by Christa Tyler
There is a Fountain (also on Darla's blog). Lead by Christa Tyler, harmonies by Logan, Kari, and Dad. Logan is also on piano:-)
Kaden is starting to sing too! Here he is doing a harmony part and playing guitar along with Logan & Kari
It's Johnny B Good (also on Darla's blog)
Old Time Rock & Roll, Dad on lead, Christa on harmony, all the boys playing along, Kaden on drums, Davis on bass, Logan on piano.
Whats an evening without a hockey game. Go Canucks!
We were having lots of people over for the dinner & concert. Cups are in alphabetical order and ready to go!
Dad's grilling for the masses
Getting a game of volleyball going!
Setting up for the main event
Go Canucks!!
almost married!!
Davis & Danielle, watching the show and keeping kids warm.
Grandpa Shantz is always surprised to be captured on film:-)
Mattea finally got to meet 3 more of her Uncles and her soon-to-be new Auntie! Davis, Logan, Kaden and Kari came for a visit to Toronto a few weeks ago. It was SO nice to see the boys again and to meet Kari for the first time. We got to spend a day together, and went shopping at Vaughan Mills Mall and then just hung out at our place. It was a great visit, but of course way too short:-( We hope they come back soon and stay longer next time!:-)
Well, these pictures were just too cute not to steal off facebook and re-post here! These pictures were taken and posted by Olga, Liana's sister. She visited them about a month ago!
Jared (#23), and his soccer team, which includes Davis (#11)
Davis has some news...he handed in his resignation at Peace Windows in August, and is moving to Regina, SK, today!
He will be looking for a job (manufacturing/managerial, like he has been doing) there, and a house to buy. Until then, he's crashing at Jared & Liana's! He's been wanting to get to "the big city" for awhile now, and it was the right time to make the big leap!
Congrats to Davis on the big move. We wish him all the best of luck in SK!...and he will have computer and hi-speed access there...perhaps another blog contributor? I'll have to work on him!
Here are some pictures for our young cousin Teegan, in Ontario. It's only a few pictures, as well, I think they have about 15 guitars now, between Dad, Davis & Logan...and it would be a little boring (maybe only for me?) to post pics of all of them! My Dad recently purchased an amazing and cool/different looking guitar (another Taylor, their fave), and somehow I missed getting a shot of that one. I'll have to bug my mom for it!
One of Logan's...no idea what it is, he'll have to comment with the descrip. (Logan's comment: It is a Fender Telecaster. This is the very first guitar I bought. If you come to visit Teegan, I'll show you the rest of my guitars :)
One of Davis'...again, no idea, but it is a bass...(the scoop: custom made Fender Precision 5 string bass. It is also Davis' first guitar. If you come to visit Teegan, I'll teach you how to play like Uncle Greg :)
Davis will be 21 in April. He works in the manufacturing shop at Peace Windows, and is the untitled assistant to the Manager of the shop. He plays the bass guitar and owns an impressive list - Fender Precision 6 string, a Thunderbird epiphone, and an acoustic Fender bass, he has a Fender Stratocaster (silver), a Taylor 6 string acoustic. He bought a brand new Mustang in 2009 and a Dodge Ram truck for the winters. He is the family's personal "movie rental store" owning TONS of movies, he keeps meticulously in alphabetical order:-) He severed his ACL and tore his MCL (knee injuries) playing soccer in 2009 and had to have surgery. He almost cut 3 fingers off, making something in the shop for Lehman, (requiring stitches), but he says that was his most painful injury. He loves to travel to SK and visit Jared & Liana. He is very handy and loves building things. He is also the only one in the family to have caught the H1N1 virus this past fall!
Davis has a bit of exciting news! It's TWINS. And they are red! :-)
He bought a truck...it's used... And he bought a car. It's a new (and gorgeous) Mustang. He wanted to wait until his christening drive to Regina to show Jared & Liana before bragging about it. Jared was surprised and excited. Liana didn't notice the car, despite a variety of attempts to draw her attention to it. She was seemingly more impressed with Mom & Dad's new Acadia. Of course she was very impressed once she saw it!! I am excited too...I know what I will be driving next time I am in town!
Well on Tues. at breakfast time Maryn complained of stomach ache but ate a little something and not another complaint from her all day. She was active and totally normal. At supper, she all of a sudden had bad stomach pain, didn’t want to eat etc. and in no time at all was throwing up. I thought OK here we go with the flu and I wonder how many will catch it. She continued to be sick all evening and through out the night. Not much sleep for us. By about 4 I was suspecting appendix and by 7:30 I was pretty sure. So we loaded her up complete with a barf bucket, dropped Logan off at his piano lesson at 8:15 and stopped in at the Doctor’s office. We were seen immediately. I think the look of a child with a bucket in tow speeds up the process :-) The doctor’s examined her and looked at me, smiled, winked and said yep! He phoned the hospital letting them know we were on our way and told us which surgeon to ask for when we arrived. They did her blood work and she was certainly displaying all symptoms. Off to the OR. I told her she will never forget April Fool’s Day again! Anyhow we got home this evening and she is doing quite well. Walking delicately and we hope her pain meds hold her. They had to do a full incision because she was too tiny to do the laproscopy procedure. So 3 out of 11….must be genetic? :-)
POST FROM BECCY (Note: Davis, Kaden and Maryn are the ones in the appendicitis club!)
Some pics stolen from Kari. Kari is almost family, as she is Chantelle's cousin...here are some great shots she posted of the boys etc. If not for Kari I don't think they'd have nearly as many nice pics from AB. She is going to photography school and has an amazing camera.
